RANDY SMITH - FOUNDER

RANDY SMITH

Prior to Smith Mason & Co Randy Smith began his career in Natchez Miss. Working on work over rigs. He worked summers on pipeline jobs for both land and offshore Gulf of Mexico. Randy graduated from Delta State Univ. in coaching and teaching science. He worked 4 years in Iran with SEDCO on land rigs as roughneck, derrick hand, asst. driller and Driller. He also taught drilling and well control. Randy progressed into the role of personnel coordinator for West Africa with Sedco for two years also working in the North Sea on offshore rigs teaching well control for Sedco. In 1986 Randy started Randy Smith Training Solutions teaching well control, stuck pipe prevention, True training, drilling technology, and Leadership and Safety leadership in over 40 countries until 2008 upon his retirement.

MARCUS K MASON - CEO

MARCUS K MASON

Prior to Smith Mason & Co Marcus Mason started his career in the Oil & Gas industry with Baker Hughes in June of 2008. Marcus started as a mud engineer in the Haynesville Shale. He was promoted to account manager in the Marcellus and Utica Shale in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. After spending three years in that role Marcus and his family moved to Denver Colorado to take over the position of Sales Manager for Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids for the Western Geo-Market covering from North Dakota to California. Marcus spent one and a half years in the role leading a sales team growing revenue and market share for the Rockies. After showing strong growth as the sales manager he was promoted to the Operations Manager for the Western Geo-Market. Baker Hughes has afforded Marcus with a strong foundation in management, safety and leadership.

LARRY SCHMERMUND - COO

LARRY SCHMERMUND

Prior to Smith Mason & Co in 2014, Larry had over 41 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry and has held positions both offshore and in the office. He began his career working on offshore drilling rigs as a roustabout and worked his way into the office in 1986 as a Rig Move Engineer. Additionally, Larry successfully ran his own company for 15 years providing rig moving, shipyard project management, stability instruction, licensing instruction and new build services to a global list of clients. Furthermore, he has authored several textbooks at clients request and has conducted training for those global clients using these textbooks. Larry joined Randy Smith Training Solutions in 2006 as the Worldwide Marine Training Manager and in 2008 he additionally assumed the role of Technical Training Manager for North America. He built a strong and talented team and continued to grow the team and revenue in North America through the transitional period of the company acquisition by Moody International and the subsequent buyout by Intertek.

JENNIFER ACCARDO - WELL CONTROL CERTIFICATION AND MARITIME LICENSING SPECIALIST

JENNIFER ACCARDO

Joined Smith Mason & Co. as Well Control Certification and Maritime Licensing Specialist in 2014. Prior to joining Smith Mason & Co., she was with Intertek Consulting & Training where she served as Certification/Licensing Specialist for North America. Jennifer has over 15 years of experience in IADC and IWCF program administration and over 10 years of experience with maritime licensing for USCG, Liberia, Panama and Vanuatu flag states. She holds a BA in Political Science from UL Lafayette and is a Notary Public for the State of Louisiana.

BARBARA DUGAS - EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR

BARBARA DUGAS

Joined Smith Mason & Co in August 2014 as Executive Administrator. Formerly with Intertek C&T, she worked as Administrative Assistant. She began her career with Randy Smith Training Solutions in 1998 as Coordinator of the Engineer Trainee Program and Files Department. Also having the opportunity to serve as assistant to Human Resources Manager for many years and working in Customer Services. While working at Randy Smith Training Solutions she attended Drilling Practices, Leadership and Experiential Training classes Coordinated by Randy Smith and his Team.

ANDREA TRAHAN - ACCOUNTS PAYABLE ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

ANDREA TRAHAN

Joined Smith Mason & Co. in 2014 as an Accounts Receivable/Payables Specialist. Prior to joining Smith Mason & Co, she was employed with Intertek Consulting & Training for over 6 years working in both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for the North America region. Andrea has over 10 years of accounting experience including Payables, Billing, Payroll and Collections. She also has a great understanding of international billing and requirements. Before working in the training industry, Andrea worked in an Administrative position within a heavy equipment business.

KIRBY LEE - TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR

KIRBY LEE

Started oilfield career as a mud engineer for Newpark Drilling fluids. Then as mainly a well control instructor, spent 15 years in help building WCS into one of the biggest training providers. In 1998 went in-house with R&B Falcon and later Transocean as a well control instructor. Joining Randy Smith in 2002 as a technical instructor remained there through the acquisition by Moody International and later buyout by Intertek. Find it to be exciting to join Smith Mason & Co and looking forward to help it build and grow.

Jeff Prilliman - Well Control and Drilling Technology Instructor

Started working in the oilfield as a Wireline Field Engineer with Schlumberger in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Other Schlumberger field assignments included Wireline and LWD Field Engineer in the Gulf of Mexico and Saudi Arabia.  Other Schlumberger work included sales based in New Orleans and software development and client training out of Sugarland, Texas.  Began working for Randy Smith Training Solutions as a Technical Instructor.  Taught Well Control Certification, Stuck Pipe Prevention and Safety Leadership courses worldwide for 5 years.  Accepted a position with Baker Hughes working as field office LWD advisor, eventually promoted to Global Marketing Manager, LWD.  Returned to Schlumberger for one year selling LWD services based in Midland Texas.  Joined Smith Mason & Co as a contractor in 2017, became an employee in November, 2018.

Jay O'Connor - Well Control and Drilling Technology Instructor

Started in the oilfield in 1979 with The Bob Fournet Company as directional Surveyor running Gyros, Multi-shots, and Steering tools on land and offshore.  1986 to 1996 taught high school physics and biology.  Joined Randy Smith Training School in 1996 as Technical instructor.  2002 established the office in Cairo Egypt.  2007 went to work for Chevron USA as a well control instructor.  2011 worked for Transocean as Sr. Well control instructor.  2013 hired by Shell Oil as drilling and completion technical instructor.  Shell stopped inhouse training in 2018 and consulted for Smith Mason & Co. for 7 months.  Hired on with Smith Mason in November of 2018.  Have taught Stuck Pipe, Drill string failure prevention, IWCF and IADC well control for 22 years, TRUE courses and DWOP/CWOP courses as well.  I have trained in 52 different countries around the world.
